Need opinion on potential purchase: 1998 Pontiac Trans Am

Original owner is selling his 1998 Trans Am, not WS6, dark blue, leather, automatic Trans, no modifications. Most importantly it has the LS1

Only 8,100 miles, says he never drove it. Still has original tires. He says it is in very good condition, no winters, heated garage.

What do you guys think this car is worth? Going to see the car tomorrow.

How much is he selling it for? Believe it or not, this model f-body has held it's value.

$13,900 is asking price. My plan if I purchase is to keep the miles low and see where the value goes. I expect the value to rise, not a huge increase, but maybe 2-4K over 5 years.

I just sold my 2000 Firehawk with 60k and some obvious cosmetic defects for 12.5k. I think the price is a little high for a 1998 automatic non WS6. The concern I always have for cars that are that old with that FEW miles is worn out valve seals from lack of motor oil lubricating them during normal operation.

I would be very critical of the mechanical condition of this car and I honestly would not expect it to appreciate that much beyond what the asking price is.

The fact that it is low mileage one owner is a plus, the fact that it is not a WS6 is a negative as far as collectibility and appreciation in the future.

My buddy has just recently been messing around with semi restoring this WS6, he's driving it hard

He put the wheels on it, upgraded the brakes and did a couple other things along with a paint job (which was a complete hack job, what a swirled out mess)

This is easily the worst paint job I've ever seen. It's just amazing that the guy who owns this shop actaully is so clueless as to what a decent paint job is supposed to look like. This has it all going on, deep rids, scratches and holograms galore. And the entire car looked like this. What a waste of $2,000!!!

With it being a non WS6 it will never be as collectible, I've been looking at low mile 5.7 IROC-Z's and even though there's plenty 305's they just don't hold the value or interest. Now I know your looking at a 4 th gen but these cars in good/ great stock condition are hard to come by and if you're like me and want to have it because of what it means to you than I'd say go for it but I wouldn't look at it as a possible investment. I think the asking price is fair if it's in the condition as described,BTW had a black/black WS6 2000 T/A I bought new and it was a great car. I miss Pontiac!!
