    Unbelievable

Took my car up to have the wheels checked to make sure they weren't bent.

My son worked on it. Pulling the socket off the impact he hit the trigger to get the socket to come off and...

Anyone else and I would already be making plans to get these two panels repainted.

Have to see what I can do.

    Ugh.... that stinks!

Do you have touch up paint? I would at least start there and see how it looks.

    GAH!

Mind if I ask how old your son is? Guessing that won't ever happen again...

I'm still trying to wrap my head around pulling the trigger to get the socket off? Been fixing cars for 16 years, so I've pulled a few wheels (and sockets) in my time. Might be time for a socket upgrade if they're sticking on the gun. Remember to use impact sockets - chrome sockets are harder than the anvil on the gun, so they deform/wreck it. They also tend to mark up wheel bolts (or nuts) more, and I've heard of them exploding in technicians hands (Go directly to the ER. Do not pass go, do not collect 200 dollars.).

Hope you're able to make those marks disappear!

A little compounding, a little wet sanding, back to compound, and finally polish. It's got s couple little spots I know are there, unlikely anyone else will ever notice them. So I'll live with it.

He's 24. Yes it was an impact socket. He works ar Discount Tire, the same Company I worked for from the time I was 16 until retirement. Honestly I don't know why guys do that, they think it's faster somehow. I never let my guys do it for just that reason.
Know as much as I do about the way things work there I'm not going to push the issue. Painting those too panels would cost the manager more in bonus money than it would actually cost to have the work done.

Never is a long time. Guys get in the habit of doing things a certain way, in this case for almost 8 years, it's hard to break them. I would hope this would be enough to do it...we'll see...
