What to do with flat black paint

Hey guys, I am wondering how to take care of flat black paint? Is there a particular wax to use and what about removing bugs and tar? I heard that the flat black can easily be marred and start to look shiny.

    Any tips would be appreciated.

Swissvax opaque is made specifically for this. I have never used it, but SV is well known in the detailing community.

Thanks for the replies. I read the provided link but anyone know if there is anything in last two years for flat black? It is not for me and I think the Swissvax might be too expensive for this person.

    Thanks again.

Re: What to do with flat black paint

    Hello friends,

Flat black was a popular paint scheme for old hot rods. The color is coming back and becoming popular for many other types of vehicles like custom trucks, cars, SUVs and even imports and exotic cars. Black primer gives the look of flat black paint, but primer breaks down and doesn't protect your car's metal surface from the elements. Flat Black automotive paint is the only way to get the look and protection of your car.

    Thanks and regards

Is this actual flat or matte finish automotive paint and not just black primer?

I've never used the Swissvax product so I can't comment with any first hand knowledge or experience. A matte finish will tend to be a little more porous than a glossy finish and this means it will soap up product but that's not always a good thing.

For example if you were to rub something oily over the paint the oils will penetrate into the paint and make it look darker or richer in color without making the paint glossy.

I've been told Meguiar's Ultimate Quik Detailer works well for "maintaining" a fresh look to flat or matte finish, this would be for the real deal though and not simply primer paints.
