Hello from Central Pennsylvania
Hello everyone, I've been checking out AutoGeek for the past few months as I have gotten more into detailing after my purchase of an 07 Civic Si in January.
The clean up department where I bought it did a terrible job cleaning the car before I purchased it, and it was neglected inside and out by its previous owners. Someone tried to show some love to the exterior at one time by buffing it, but it was done poorly. They ran the backing plate into the bottom of the passenger mirror and the grille, leaving gouges in both pieces, and tons of swirls from poor washing techniques.
The interior was just as bad. The alcantara arm rests on the door and center console were filled with... I don't even know what. I'm guessing grime from skin oils, lotions, and dirt. The seat belts had the same kind of grime embedded into them. The leather wrapped steering wheel was all sorts of sticky and disgusting, and the color was coming off of the leather. I've done a lot to clean this car up and get it looking good. It's not anywhere near perfect, but its getting better. I started getting more into detailing as I had to clean new and different kinds of materials like the alcantara in the interior. I've been watching YouTube videos from Darren from Auto Fetish Detail, The Junkman, Garry Dean, Larry from AMMO NYC, and most recently videos from Mike Phillips.
I've learned a lot this year about detailing. Cleaning seat belts, alcantara, cleaning stains from carpets without completely soaking the carpet. I've learned about above surface bonded contaminates and how to remove them by claying. I've learned about two bucket washes, grit guards, foam guns, water-less washes, and rinse-less washes. I'm now wanting to learn more about paint correction through machine buffing and polishing. I also want to learn more about interior cleaning, mostly techniques to use on fabrics and carpets to cause the least amount of damage possible while cleaning them. Hopefully, I can not only learn, but also contribute helpful information as I learn and do more to my own vehicles.
