How to clean all-weather floor mats

    Hi,

New member to AG out of Dallas, TX, and enjoying every bit of time spent on the site.

I just had one question for everyone. I recently bought some all-weather OEM black rubber floor mats for my new Acura TL, and man, they sure do get dirty quickly.

Any recommendations for cleaning them? Especially what tool (towel, brush, etc) is most helpful to use on these things. I tried using a cheapie towel with some Meg's QD, but it was leaving lint. In retrospect, that was a horrible idea, but I had not had a chance to buy any specialized cleaning items at the time. I guess I would need real rubber cleaner and protectant, applied with some kind of brush. Suggestions?

    Thanks to all,
    Al

I use Simple Green dilluted about 10:1 You could even do 20:1. I spray them off with the nozzle then spray with the cleaner. Let them sit for about 5 minutes then brush them off with any brush. On my own cars I just use a deck brush that way you don't have to get on your hands and knees.

rinse thoroughly and let them air dry. I've heard where people treat them with some sort of protectant but I wouldn't want them to be slippery or anything.

Thanks, I didn't think of using Simple Green for that. I actually have some at home. It doesn't cause the black mat color to fade, does it?

Also, on the way home yesterday, I was thinking, what about just throwing them on the ground, and using a sponge and car wash with them, then air dry? I don't know if any agents in the car wash would damage the mats. (I have Meg's GC car wash)

mine haven't lost any color using the APC, but a bristled brush with just wash shampoo would work too. A dilluted APC is a staple in detailing. They have so many uses.

Appreciate the help. I'll give Simple Green a try.
