Simplified process for 'AIO detail' - what do you think?

    Hi everyone,

I've received plenty of great advice, suggestion, ideas and constructive criticism from recent posts regarding simplifying my detailing process for family and friends (and customers in near future).

So after going through over all the replies, I've whittled down the steps/products in order to simplify my detailing into an AIO process for DDs.

Here is what I am thinking:

    1. Scrub/dress tyres, clean/wax rims
    2. Rinseless wash (and use diluted pH neutral, ammonia/bleach free APC as pre soak on dirty panels/'leopard spots')
    2. Clay mitt/cloth
    3. Apply AIO (panels, plastics, chrome, windows)
    4. QD boot/bonnet/door jambs
    5. Clean glass of interior and QD dash/console

    No vacuum/shampoo/leather cleaner/conditioning

I am planning on charging $160 and spend no more than 3.5 hours.

Question: Am I still selling myself short?

Pads: It's been suggested to get a few LC pads to vary the cut of the AIO product.
    For instance:
    3 x orange (heavier cut),
2 x white (for well maintained paint),
2 x green (an allrounder) and
    1 x black (for applying finishing wax/sealant).

Question: Enough pads for a typical (sparkle & shine) job?

    Swirl/watermark/light scratch/scuff mark removal:
I won't bother mentioning this to the customer. If they want this option, I explain the process (eg: time involved, price) and they can shop around if they want.

Question: I could use this as an upsell - Sound fair?

AIO product: Still unsure what to get but thought about Durogloss 501 as a starting point and use it as the base of my detail and upsell Durogloss 111 as a sealant.

Questions: Does charging $160 for application of DP501 as my AIO sound fair, is a more than adequate product with the pads listed above, and DP111 a good option for an upsell?

Also, recently caught onto carpro hydro2: Any bother with this stuff as an upsell because I've read DP501/105 combo works wonders anyway.

    Thanks for reading

    Cheers!

Darn! I just noticed that Duragloss 501 isn't available in Australia. Everything else such as 101, 105, 601, 111 is available, but not 501. ARGH!

Will the 105 serve a similar purpose?

The AIOs I wanted to get are not available in Oz: Klasse AIO, XMT360, Megs D151, Duragloss 501.

It's weird because I have get Klasse HGSG and other XMT products, just not their AIOs!

I wonder if here in Oz that AIOs aren't that popular or something, I would have thought it would have been a cinch to find.

So if another Duragloss product isn't suitable I may have to use HD Speed or ColorX and see how it performs on heavily oxidized paint with a LC orange pad.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Do you realize that DG 501 or DG 105 have no abrasives --- they are basically paint cleaners with LSP (501 being the strongest of the two)?? Products like HD Speed on the other hand are a paint cleaner, mild polish and LSP rolled into one.

There are 2 types of AIO, chemical like Klasse AIO or DG501 and abrasive AIOs like D151 or HD Speed. I'm not sure why you pointed out it's not an abrasive AIO as I can't see anything indicating he didn't know the difference. I prefer D151 as my AIO but that's me.

Not sure I'd say chemical AIOs are just paint cleaners either.

If I gave you $160 to detail/clean my car and it wasn't vacuumed...I would be pretty disappointed.

I would rather have my carpets vacuumed then my door jams and sills quick detailed.

Sounds like a good process! Why not use HD Speed? Should be fairly easy to get in Australia and is a great product even in full sun.

Just wanted to make sure OP was aware there are no abrasives in 501 or 105. When many people think of an AIO they automatically think -- clean, correct (polish) and protect. While DG has excellent products all around, their nomenclature is confusing as they refer to their LSPs (even 111 which is pure sealant) as "Polishes"

    Thanks for your replies

To make it simple: I would like to know what combo of AIO and LSP would be great for:

    - Great to Good paintwork (garaged, minimal to no swirling)
    - Good to fair paintwork (50% garaged, some noticeable scratches/swirling)
    - Fair to poor paintwork (not garaged, very noticeable swirling)

In Oz, we can't get Megs D151, Klasse AIO, XMT360, DG501.

    Thanks

IMO this is not a good candidate for an AIO.

Why do you want to follow and All-in-one product with an additional step?

I generally think of AIO as a product that works great for a white car with stained paint that can be cleaned up and gloss added.

IMO, using a AIO allows you to get good results while decreasing the amount of time involved. Targeted to someone who doesn't not know what swirls are.

I have used the Klasse AIO and XMT360. I liked Klasse and think it lasts longer.

Had an opportunity to try Meguiar's White Wax the other nite at the Meguiar's HQ in Irvince, CA last week. It has a little cut, cleaners and an LSP. Used it with Meguiars Microfiber Finishing Pads.

    -Easy to use

    -Eliminated minor water spots

    -Eliminated light swirls

Re: Simplified process for 'AIO detail' - what do you think?

I tend to agree if you are going to turn an AIO into a 2 step process, you might as well do a polish followed by wax or sealant. Avoid AIO's on black at all costs but other colors seem to be ok.

For me an AIO works well for the minor damaged cars where people just want shiney, which is most people. For poor paintwork you upsell. At that point it probably needs correction but if you can upsell even polish and wax it will be similar work for more $ with better result (polish won't fix what needs a correction but it will do a better job polishing than an AIO).
