Understand your customers better, with SurveyMonkey

“If you work just for money, you’ll NEVER make it. But if you love what you’re doing and you always put the customer first, success will be yours.”
—Ray Krock; Founder of McDonalds

Stop second guessing and start planning.
How many of your customers say their car “looks great,” pay you politely, and drive away without comment? Ninety percent, maybe? Wouldn’t you like to know more? They’ve got opinions about:

  • Price: Did they find you expensive? Cheap?
  • Choice: Were there services they wanted, that you didn’t offer?
  • Speed: Did they think you were fast, or slow?
  • Quality: Did anything get overlooked? Streaky windows? Door jambs?
  • Recommendability: Would they tell family and friends about you?
  • Repeatability: Would they hire you again?
  • With actual feedback you reduce the guesswork—and risk—of improving and evolving your business.

SurveyMonkey makes it possible to survey all your customers, for free.

Here’s how to get started, in about 10 minutes:

  • Sign up for an account, in about 5 minutes, here.
  • Create a survey. Here’s a good example.
    • More questions to ask:
      • Do you find our prices to be very high, high, average, or below average?
      • Was there a service you wanted that we could not offer?
What service, and about what would you pay for it?
  • Ask EVERY customer, retail or wholesale to submit a survey, the day after your appointment.
    • Email your requests. SurveyMonkey gives you the website address.
    • Or mail a letter. Thank the customer, sign it, and write down the website where they can give the feedback.

Expect around 15% of your customers to follow through. Don’t lose patience because in time you’ll get to know their wants and needs more clearly than your competition. Which makes business more of a ‘layup’ than a hail mary.
