Headlight restoration business
I would like to know how many of you are focusing on headlight restoration as a primary source of business? It seems to me that any car that's on the road, whether it's a $500 car or $75,000+ car, needs clear headlights. That makes any of a car with degraded headlight lenses a possible client. Charging $50 - $100 or more per car, make for a pretty nice business.
Would you consider buying a headlight restoration franchise (I know only of two) or just go at it alone? Thanks.

Re: Headlight restoration business
I don't think I would go all in on just doing headlight restoration. It's a great add on service and can definitely make you some extra income especially during a slow time but I don't think there is enough demand to keep a steady income.
Best way to set your price would be to call around to the local car dealers and see what they are selling the service for and undercut them. Here in NJ it's about $90+ at the dealer so charging $65 the customer already feels like they are ahead.

It's a fantastic add-on service. Or try and set up at a car show or mall parking lot, even gas stations and offer $40-$50 restos. There ate tons of cars that need it... But I'm not sure a career is their.

Re: Headlight restoration business
I had a guy ask me today what I charged, (another detailer). I told him from $65 to $125 depending on how bad they were and if I was using Opti-Lens on them. His response was anything less than $250 was just too cheap. Say WHAT?
Guess he'll never do any headlights...

Has anybody used Dr Headlight? They offer a 4-year guarantee if headlight lenses fade again, they'll replace the lenses with OEM parts at no cost to the customer. Apparently they use an epoxy based solution that permeates the lens and is not *just* a top-coat. They also offer a Dr Headlight franchise for those who have the "buckaroos".

I'd be weary of starting a franchise business. It may be a while until you see a ROI and then you still have the franchise percentage you'll be paying. Is a 4 yr warranty worth that?

Hey g35 can I also ask about your process? Everytime I watch someone do it, they have a bit different process.
