In my area I see I step polish for $180---I would assume that it would remove minor swirls.

Re: What do you guys charge for swirl removal?

I judge the job based on how many hours I think it would take. For example, one job I did was a swirl removal on a Jeep and the client really got a deal for $100 had the Meguiars Microfiber System not been introduced.

I say had it not been introduced because the Correction Compound was the only product working for me and I managed to do the whole car in 5 hours, putting myself right at the $20 per hour which is the lowest I like to stand on correction jobs.

But, the most important item here is to think of your expenses and how much you need to make. For me, $20-$25 per hour on correction details works while for you, maybe more is needed. I know that if I had to take care of a shop also then I may have to bump up the prices but right now, part timee and only in the summer, $20-$25 works for me.

Re: What do you guys charge for swirl removal?

After doing this kind of work for a few years now and learning how I can be my worst critic. I get too much time wrapped up in my details to make an hourly dollar figure that makes sense to me. Having to pay taxes, licensing fees, liability insurance, provide my own health insurance which I don't, purchase products, van upkeep and fuel (Mobile), compensate myself with a paycheck and a little profit I think at a minimum $50 per hour would be needed. I am seriously considering getting completely away from paint corrections all together and focus more on quick wash and wax services as a source of primary income and save the paint corrections for hobby time work. I strive to make $50 an hour but doing things the way that I have for the last few years often times falls quite short of that when the hourly figure is considered.

You know Dave, I actually did the same thing this year. Thursday-Saturday are strictly reserved for washes and washes&waxes with an occasional interior detail here and there. Monday-Wednesday are reserved for boats, and the occasional paint correction.

Yesterday alone I was able to (wash, vac, & wipe down) 13 vehicles at 40-50 dollars a pop. This is definately what rolls in my market...
