Moving mobile Detail business to another state
New Opportunities in my wife's career has opened the door for her to transfer back to our home state of CA, specifically Southern California. Where we are now, my mobile business is a part time gig supplementing my full time career (weekends and days off are Detail appointments)
For those that have moved there business to another state, how was the transition with new clients? Obviously for us family will be a big help with generating cars and word of mouth, but this might be an opportunity to see if I can make this a full time gig.
Just looking for any thoughts, words of advise from others that may have gone down this road before.
Thanks.

Back to the Southbay area. Are you down that way?

In SoCal yes, but not in the southbay. We're based in Temecula. We go south to Fallbrook and north to Lake Elsinore.

Love Temecula, my parents live there. How's the mobile detail world in SoCal? Over-saturated?

Very much so. BUT, I will say that we've turned this into a thriving business in less than six months by looking and acting professional. By running it like a professional business. We buy our water at a local detail shop. It's not unusual, like yesterday, to pull up and see two to four other outfits filling up their tanks. I'm going with 95% of what we see is guys dressed in all manner of boardshorts or basketball shorts, wearing a wife beater or generic logo t, filling up water into an unmarked vehicle with all their gear piled up in the bed. No markings on the vehicle, no uniforms on the employees (owner and some guy that works for him most likely). Absolutely no pride in the appearance of their business. Maybe they do a good job, maybe they don't. But they don't give the outward appearance of being a professional detailing service that is looking to secure some high dollar business. They look like a couple guys that found some detailing gear on the side of the road, threw it in the back of their truck and are looking to make a quick buck. If that's my competition it's no wonder I'm turning away business.

Good deal! That's how I'm hoping to be a step above, my quality of work through word of mouth and my professional image. Right now it's only me and truck. It's not a beater, newer model Dodge Ram(quad cab) and when I'm out on a job I have magnetic signs that go on both back doors, and wear with my company shirts. Regardless, coming from the south I'm sure I can look to raising my prices a little bit too due to a higher market.

Congratulations on your move. As for your career, yes, you need to start with a clean slate.

Timely. Only two years after the last response.

Take it easy, man.
New guy with first post. He may not realize that.
Keep it friendly here on AGO, remember?
It is no coincidence that man's best friend cannot talk.
