Then he has tons of pads. I know the pads do toast forever. So lets days he charges me $.50 a pad. He goes through 5 pads on the car. He ends up maybe using 10 dollars in product an pads and towels.
So his labour charge is like 10$/hour? Megs are good products. Even I use them. I guess he is doing this as a hobby rather than professionals, whose bread and butter is detailing. So he can afford to charge less. 10$ an hour is kinda very less. Pros have tons of other expenses like washing equipment, good shampoos, gas expenses, lighting etc.
In any case, if you are happy with the end result, then I guess he is doing a good job
Disclaimer :- Im not a professional detailer, just do my own car thats all

If I pay him 70. And he does it for two hours that's $35.00 an hour. Where did you get 10?

Whoa!! 2 hours?? I dont even finish my bike in that time and that includes washing, waxing, lubing the chain, dressing the plastics and the engine.
No way can he do in 2 hours even if he cuts corners etc. Not one step also.
Suppose, each section in one step takes upto 5 to 6 minutes including priming pad, section passes and buffing off the polish.
On a hatchback, if I divide the sides to 4 sections each that makes total of 8, roof = another 4 sections, hood = 2 sections, hatch= 2 sections, front and rear bumper = 2x2= 4 sections, front left and right fender 2 sections, A pillar, C pillar 4 sections.
Total number of sections =8+4+2+2+4+2+4=26
Multiply that by 5minutes each = 26*5= 130 minutes = 2 hours 10 minutes.
And this is just polishing the car.
Now add 3 minutes per section for LSP application, buffing = 26*3= 78 minutes = 1 hour 18 minutes.
Now dressing tyres 5 minutes totally as minimum.
So in total just the basic of detailing itself comes to 130+78+5= 213minutes/60= 3.5 hours.
And thats just a one step.
