ThinPro pads first impressions

Finally got a chance to try my new 3.5 and 5.5 ThinPro pads.
Wanted to test the 3.5 " on the Girot 3" and the 5.5" on the Porter Cable 5" backing plates.
Didn't take any pictures as was testing on my DD which is in decent shape.
Was more after basic ease of use and effectiveness of the "thin is in" idea.
Tested the 3.5" first.
Using Girot's Mini, Grey Pad and Optimum Hyper Compound on plastic bumper cover.
Pads rotate very well at all higher speeds (4-6) compared to 1.5" thick pads (TP).
Run much cooler on plastic bumper cover than TP.
Grey pad has a lot of cut compared to Yellow TP (actually think I may have burned through the clear coat had I kept going).
No marring that I could see but used White ThinPro (TNP) with Optimum Hyper Polish just see how works.

Test spot super slick and LSP ready.

Next up the 5.5" on the PC.

Used the White 5.5" with Optiimum Poli-Seal (an AIO) on hood, roof and trunk.

Have black single stage stripes on clear coated surfaces, so good dual test spots.

TNP rotate very well speeds 3-6.
Larger pads make short work of panels (divided each into 4 panels, 4 passes per panel).

All three done in about an hour.

Pad spins even on small angles and works right to the edge of the pad (edge of wing on trunk was done by putting product on the bevelled edge of the pad).

Paint transfer seemed higher than TP, indicating more cut (could have been dirt, but did ONR before, so don't think so).
Pads were cool running and easy to control (had a little creeping in 4th pass on some sections, which I think was caused by too large of section or lack of product).

Results were truly oustanding and could have stopped there.

Had never applied wax by machine, so decided to try with Red 3.5. TNP on the Girot's Mini speed 4.

Wax was Collinite 845.

Wow, have I been doing it wrong on applying wax by hand!

Took me less than 5 mintes to do those 3 large panels and used less product.

Seemed to be a thinner coat as well.

Buffing off was effortless and took 5 minutes.

Outstanding finish-was not the goal but a nice bonus

Overall impressions:

Run cool on plastic.

Maintain rotation much better than TP.

More cut with Grey TNP than Yellow TP.

Polishers seem easier to cntrol.

Use less product (especialy wax).

Pads clean easier(less product is in pad).

Bottom line these have become my "Go To" pads for the foreseable future.

The grey cutting pad is open cell.

The rest are closed.

Tried both and reallyy like on DA.

Have not tried on rotary, but rarely use.

While polishing did you change your routine any differently, i.e. swap out pads sooner/later, compared to using other pads?

I have a set of ThinPro samples I'm going to be trying out in the next couple of weeks and am looking for any advice before giving them a try.

I did not change the routine, but the routine is do a test spot.

In this case I tried to duplicate the way I used the thicker CCS pads too see the difference.

If you want to really see, do a 5-50 test spot on a plastic panel.

I think you will quickly see the differences with either polisher (especially the rotation).

Car was in decent condition and silver so no noticeable swirls.

Some scratches on doors, but minor.

Since not going for perfection but ease of maintenance, I went with Poli-Seal (it's an AIO).

ThinPro 5.5 on Porter Cable DA.

Did 4 passes per section speed 5.

Turned out great and only took 2 hours polishing.

Did not wax after as wanted to see how Poli-Seal lasts.

Again the pads performed excellently and were easy to clean on the fly and after (the pad looks brand new after cleaning).
