Re: The Mindset of a Professional Detailer
Awesome read Mike. I started my train of thought using the 3rd option of showcar details, even though I haven't yet amassed the skills to achieve a truly satisfactory result from the details I'm doing. The details are good, but I believe they can be a LOT better, so it drives me on to be slightly faster (most cars take me 12-15 hours) without sacrificing ANY quality. Wish I could get my hands on your book though.

Re: The Mindset of a Professional Detailer
I would be very interested in getting a copy of Mike's book, I know many others would be as well.
There are many articles online but very few detailing books. I don't understand why there aren't more books available. Granted it's a relatively small market but there's multitudes of books that I would think would be in the similar niche market appeal.

Re: The Mindset of a Professional Detailer
And this mindset is my dilemma.
I know that in order to make money, you can't treat every beat-up daily driver as a show car, but I always tend to anyhow. I don't mean I do a 3+ step to every car I detail, but I do spend more time on certain areas than I should. It just hurts so bad to see something you know you can fix and really make look better, but you "can't" because that's not what the customer ordered.

Re: The Mindset of a Professional Detailer
Mike, excellent write up & I wish I could get a copy of your book. Please let me know if you ever do a 2nd edition. I like others here do have a PASSION for what I do & I always do extra for my customers, I guess business wise that's my "Achillies Heal". I have a really hard time to turn the car back over knowing I could have taken it a few steps further, but like it has already been stated that's what the customer has permitted me to do. Due to my automobile Passion ,it is my Therapy!!! I think we should have a Passion / Therapy group / session, I know I would be a Lifetime Member. I would love to hear and welcome any self help ideas to help me with my over achieving illness. I guess it comes down to Time Mgmt. + Money vs. Passion.

Amen dave. I found out early on that your passion will send you to the poor house while starting a business! I feel like I'm trying to give a great first impression to ALL of my customers as I build clientele, no matter what the job pays. That's tuff!! I hope I survive until I can command the higher fees for my "passion". But then again, I love my days work now, no matter what kind of car I'm doing. So time management is key. After all, we must pay the bills.

Yeah Mike, you should re-publish your book. I'd buy it in a heartbeat. I mean seriously, you could probably make a small fortune here, KnowhutImean?
