Re: Love Bug Tip - Rent a car - avoid the bugs
Back in the mid '60s I had a 62 Plymouth with a Bug Screen mounted. In it's lifetime it did not collect the amount of bugs shown. The screen attracted a lot of attention as I travelled in Europe. I was in the RCAF in France and Germany.

And boy will they etch if left on!
I have some customers pull up and I immediately say silently to myself "here's another 'etch and retch' ".

Yeah, I'm a Floridian too. i always rent a car when doing any highway trips. ESPECIALLY this time of yr. May is love bug season. I'm too OCD to have all those bug guts eating into my paintwork.. Every night ATM i'm cleaning off a few just from a regular 60mph to work.

I'm the proud owner of this love bug coated vehicle. After about three hours of cleaning I have managed to save her with no damage. Unfortunately, I will be heading up to Atlanta again in a couple days so I may be going through this all over again. It is amazing how well the bug remover and some pressure cleaning worked.I have pictures of the results but not very good at posting them to the forum.

Was it the Sonax Insect Remover you used?
Awesome that you found something that sorted out this mess. Sure we get bugs and insects here in Sweden too. But it's very rare you get through that amount in the short time you seemed to get them. And also they are not so aggressive to etching the clearcoat. I would buy a portable PW and I think that Ryobi has one and have it in the trunk with water bottled up and the Insect Remover. To rinse it off fast LOL. Don't envy you this season with the love bugs.

I used Kenotek Anti-Insect. Although Mike Phillips recommended the Sonax Insect Remover, which I would have purchased but I had already purchased some of the Kenotek last month. I have and used a small 1800 psi electric PW. It would be nice to be able to travel with it but you can't carry enough bottled water and you can't always find a water source when you're on the road. I would normally go to the coin operated car washes when needed like Mike mentioned but in this case I took care of this at home where of course all my supplies are at.
