Engine Cleaning

I live in a condo where I have a covered deck parking. No access to running water or power points. How can I clean my engine? Is there some degreaser which can be sprayed and wiped off. The merc service guy told me not to use water spary in the engine bay. The underside the hood is covered with a thick carpet like stuff and the underneath of the car is fully covered with molded tray like sections which are bolted to the frame. These will collect the waste water if hosed. I have seen these removed when they do an oil change. Cannot be done at home since the vehicle needs to be up on the lift. Any solutions ? One could be leave it alone -- but...

Sid, it sounds to me that you may just want to wipe down the stuff in the engine bay as best you can. I find that ONR and a few old towels work pretty well. I then follow up with some M40 on my hoses. It may not get the job done the way you'd like, but it's better than neglecting the bay altogether.
