    Dilution ratio

    I am trying to make 50oz of carpet shampoo in which calls for dilution ratio of 20:1 how much product do I need to add to my 50oz container? Thanks in advance.

    Re: Dilution ratio

    I come up with 2.4oz of your carpet shampoo and 47.6oz of water for your container.

    Yep.... 50oz / (20+1) = 2.38oz per unit

    I could very easily put this in an algebra equation, but why? Put 2 1/2 ounces in the container and fill it. It's not rocket science.

    It might be good for the group to see so you have the podium!

    Re: Dilution ratio

    Ha! Called out.

    Ok. Let's see... x= ounces of water; y= ounces of solution

    x+y =50; x/y = 20/1 or 20y=x or y=x/20

    solve simultaneously

    replace y in the first equation with what y equals in the second equation (x/20)

    so: x + x/20 =50... multiply each term by 20 and... 20x + x = 1000 or
    21x = 1000... divide each term by 21 and x = 47.619

    going back to one of the original equations (x + y = 50), plug 47.619 in for x and solve for y (2.381).

    2.381 ounces of solution mixed with 47.691 ounces of water

    Now blast that sucker off to the moon!

    Can you convert that to density altitude? lol
