I'd say there are only a few instances where you'd actually benefit from replacing the stock Griot's 3" BP with a different 3" one, such as the LC. One case where you would want to would be if you were using the Meguiar's MF pads and didn't want to use an interface pad.

As for power, the GG3 has plenty as long as too much (unnecessary) pressure isn't applied.

Here is a picture of the LC 3.5" BP next to the LC and GG 3" BP:

The thickness of the LC 3.5" BP is identical to the LC 3" BP. One could assume that the 3" is simply a ground down 3.5" BP...

Here is a picture of the different 3" BPs I own:

The bottom two are identical except for the hooks on the back. Oh, and the color...

One other thing to note, the LC 3" BP has micro hooks. See bottom left:

Re: Griots 3" plate vs LC 3" plate?

Sorry if this is slightly OT but....

I was just researching whether I could use the LC 3" Backing Plate (actually 2 7/8") on the GG 6" and combine with a 3" Pad so I wouldn't need to smoke another $100 on the smaller GG Polisher.

If so, do I need an Adapter or am I good to go as is?

    Appreciate any advice.

the bp should fit directly. no adapters needed.

While the backing plate will fit just fine, keep in mind that a 3" pad on a GG 8mm DA will barely protrude beyond the shroud. I think many use an extension to move the plate away from the shroud. A 3.5" plate with 4" pads is fine though.

    Thank You,

I just may stick with the 3.5" plate...should be fine to get most of tighter areas. Maybe try it down the road.

All I found for an (Extension):Buff and Shine Rotary Backing Plate Extension

But that is for Rotary Only.

    Is this the one...

    (Adapter): D.A Adapter 5/8" X 11 ?

I believe some use that DA Adapter, the Rotary Backing Plate and this extension Buff and Shine Rotary Backing Plate Extension But, I've never done it so keep that in mind. I find the 4" pads fine for my needs.

Re: Griots 3" plate vs LC 3" plate?

the GG stock backing plate is a little thinner and I would use that one as it's probably lighter as well and would be better suited with the GG3. on a regular sized DA, the LC backing plate would be better to use...
    i am the jump starter.
