Re: 3 inch backing plate on GG6
You want 3" pads. Some will be a uniform 3" and others will be beveled out to 3.5" or so.

you can use any pad with 3 inches of hook & loop aka velcro. overall pad size can range anywhere from 3" - 4"..

Griot's 6" ROP has the power to spin huge pads so any small pad will work but here's this,
and black where the white is the most aggressive and the black is the softest and least aggressive.

Re: 3 inch backing plate on GG6
I'm a weekend warrior. I watched the video on the versatility of the GG6 with different size backing plates (again, I do this just as a hobby). So Saturday I ordered the griots heavy duty 3" backing plate then ordered some 3" Lake Country flat pads because that is the pad I had in other sizes so I'm familiar already and wanted to keep everything the same. I ordered in a hurry. The next day, I noticed there were 4" as well and got me thinking if I ordered the right size pad for the Griots 3" backing plate or if I was supposed to order 4"?

Not sure what you ordered but here's what I would get, Lake Country 3.5" ThinPro Flat pads

Lake Country makes some 4" pads that are thick and very different from the ThinPros.
What's the part number or post a picture.

Looks like you ordered these,
https://www.autogeek.net/lc-75-230sb.html
Nothing wrong with these on the big Griot's 6" DA as it has the power to rotate them.
Due to how thick these specific pads are, they won't rotate well on the smaller Griot's 3" mini polisher as the thick foam absorbs all the power coming out of the tool and dissipates it diminishes it into the foam.
Next time, check out LC ThinPro pads or the Griot's BOSS 3.5 thin pads
Thin is in...

Re: 3 inch backing plate on GG6
Thanks Mike!
I chose to go with flat after reading all your posts and recommendations as well as asking on this forum. I’m a newbie and still haven’t used it, still building up my arsenal. I went with the flat because it sounds like (even from what you said) they are stupid proof. As my skill gets better and I get more comfortable, when I am In need of replacements, I plan on switching to thin. I just wasn’t sure if I needed 3” or 4” for the 3” backing plate. I thought 3” since it will be used for smaller areas but wanted to double check.
Thanks again
