    GG15 convert....tips/tricks on transition?

So, even though I was leaning toward a 21, I caught a smoking deal on a brand new GG15 direct from griot's from a certain online retailer. It actually wound up working out better for me because I really didn't need any of the boss creams or pads as I've recently standardized to Lake Country thinpros and am really liking the jescar products. I also didn't incur the additional cost of the 21 especially considering having to purchase a separate backing plate.

With that said I've never really used a large throw orbital. All of my experience comes from a PC years ago (pre XP model...sheesh), and my current GG3/MT300 combo. I just recently put thinpros on the MT300 with Jescar products and McKees 360, and have been shocked at the results. I can only imagine this gg15 will do even better.

So are there any pitfalls to be aware of when transitioning from standard 8mm throw and relatively weak machine to long throw and relatively powerful? Are the thinpros a good way to go in place of the boss pads which I imagine are either the same thickness or maybe a little thicker? should I be alright with no center hole?

I haven't tried the thin pros on a G15, I specifically use the BOSS pads. However, the one time I used a LC CCS pad on a G15, there was tremendous amount of heat build up in the pad, and the pad separated from teh velcro back. After that, I never tempted using a NON BOSS pad on the G15. So, with that said, mileage may vary.

I can see that happening with the bulky CCS pad, they really aren't built for that kind of abuse. Hell I could generate plenty of heat on a CCS pad with my MT300. But the AG website says the thinpros are designed for the large throw orbitals so I can't imagine Mike would sell us something that wouldn't work properly like that.

Hopefully they work out well, I've already got 6x 5.5" with another 10 on the way and am really settling into them on the current machine. Would hate to have to swap them for something else.

Can anyone comment on the difference in thickness between the boss pads and stuff like the thinpros or HDOs?

The only other difference you'll find is it's pretty smooth..

It should cut a little faster than the MT300 and be a lot smoother.

see I find the mt300 with 5.5" thinpro to be really smooth, though maybe that's because I've only got a PC from at least 8 years ago to compare it to!

I had a couple of the last version Meg's machines. The few hours that they lasted they shook so bad my arm would be numb in about 10 minutes. That was using the big Meg's pads though. The thin Pro pads make a big difference on everything I use them on.
