Backing plate is great. Only got through the pad face not the second layer or velcro. So I learned a good lesson and will give it another go as soon as my pads arrive. Thanks

Re: What Did I Do Wrong - Griot's Pad

You mentioned 12 total passes. Was that per section at one time? If you are doing 12 passes at a time that seems like a lot and would definitely lead to heating. I'd try about 4, then wipe polish and inspect. If results aren't what you want, do another 4, etc. You don't want the polish fully drying out as your going. If I misunderstood your post, disregard.

Re: What Did I Do Wrong - Griot's Pad

Hi - it was about 4 per section. I'm guessing from what everyone is saying I overworked the area as it was to large. I'm going to cut the hood into 6 sections with 3 passes each and see if that helps. Fresh pads on the way - thanks for your help. Mark

Ive melted some velcro in the center of my backing plate before and not noticed anything on the pad face. Weird. Good luck you got some great advice going forward.
