Here's some others so you can see how they compare. I don't think the HF ever made it to the list.

    Decibel Rating of Various Polishers
One thing I noticed when looking at the list of earlier tests, the GG6 appears to be the older model, not the current one. My tests of the current model show lower numbers, so it could be the current model is quieter than the old one.

However, comparing db readings taken with an iPhone app to a dedicated sound meter is likely to lead to some inaccurate conclusions. I doubt you could reliably compare results from two different phones, or two different apps. And since the db scale is logarithmic, not linear, a difference of a few db's in the right freqencies can be very noticeable to the human ear.

Another thing to consider when comparing machines is the actual speed ratings versus the numerical speed settings. I don't know if all the machines in the test have the same speed ratings for each numerical setting. If not, that could also account for slight differences in noise level.

Nevertheless, the machines tested in the list were all done by the same person, same device, and same test conditions, so it provides a relative comparison.

Does it really have to be that complicated? All I did was put a 5" backing plate on both machines without a pad, turned them on full max power speed 6, stood exactly the same distance of about 2ft. away and held the polisher still in my hand while it rotated at full speed in a quiet room and got readings. Both measured 87 decibels.

Good enough for me.Need a favor from a GG6 owner that has a decibel meter app
