Can you get that into tighter areas then I could with my GG6 with 3" pads?

Tighter, yes. Much tighter, no. I have both. The size difference isn't what I would consider drastic. You can sort of see in this photo.

The only way you will get considerably smaller is an ibird, Griot's small pneumatic DA, or their new pneumatic rotary.

Flex PE-8 Kompact with a 1" or 2" backing plate. It is a rotary, though (and the iBrid can be as well, if you use the rignt head), if that makes a difference. It also means that you can use extensions on the PE8 to get into tight spots. Justas a suggestion.

I would rather not do rotary, they still scare me a bit, and I think a smaller one would, be even worse than a big pad.

I understand being scared of the rotary type polishers, I am the same way. But a 1"-2" pad, if you think about it, cannot be anywhere near the damage potential of a larger pad. The speed of the pad at the outside edge of 6" pad is going to be far higher than the speed at the outside edge of a 1" or 2" pad. THe speed at the outiside edge is the important factor, as this is the point at which maximum cut and heating occurs. The PE-8 using a 1' or 2" pad, at the minimum rptm of 1300 RPM won't generate much, if any, heat. You can ask the guys in the Flex section for their experiences regarding this.

Because of the edge speed, a big pad will always have more potential for harm/damage.

The Forensic Detailing channel on Youttube does have a couple of videos where he discussed the PE-8, and shows it being used on bumper covers.

That new 3" HD Backing Plate won't be compatible with the GG3. It's for the GG6.

    Re: Gg 3"

The problem with using a rotary (Flex PE-8) on panels like bumpers where you normally would like to use a smaller polisher, is that the rotary can get very fatiguing. I still love using a rotary and purple foamed wool for quick correction on bigger stuff like hoods, roofs, trunks and most door panels. As well as getting up close to objects (precision stuff like with a 1" or 2" pad).
