Re: Griots Garage 3 inch HD Backing Plate
Thank you for the information Jeff! I use the gg6 and my gg3 often, love having the ability to just grab and go, but sometimes it would be great to have the larger machine and power with the 3inch plate to get some interesting spots polished or corrected
Looking forward to the 2017 year and plenty of more detailing!

I am a fan of the TORQ backing plates also but keep it for medium and finishing polishing. It is too flexible for compounding and MF pads will kill it. The soft foam beveled edges will split where the foam meets the hard plastic plate on top and dig into the foam. I have had it happen to my 5" and 3" plates. But I like them enough to replace them and just use them for medium polishes and finishing.
I am also a fan of the TORQ Hyper Flex rotary backing plates.

Griots Garage. I know that you do not sell 4" pads, but can you please develop a 4" HD backing plate with the same design principles? I still prefer to use a 4" pad on the PC for most bumper work over the Rupes MINI because of the curvatures.
I use a PC because of the lower vibration. If I can get the power of the GG6 and have a HD BP to smooth out the vibration that would be a winner

I believe that the new Boss 3" pads are 3" at the velcro side and 3.5" at the surface that contacts the paint because of the chamfered edge. So pretty close to a 4" pad.

Technically, the new 3" BOSS Pads are 3 7/16" diameter on the pad face. We do make a 1" thick 4" Pad with a pad face diamter of 3 3/4"
What other sizes would everyone like to see?

Re: Griots Garage 3 inch HD Backing Plate
Perhaps a revisit to the GG3 is in order. I got curious about the new BOSS cremes, so I brought out the GG3, did some damp sanding on a panel (I currently forget the grit, probably 2k). I then followed up with the GG3, a Megs MF Cut pad (sorry, Griot's, your newer pads weren't out yet), and BOSS Correcting Creme. It pulled them sanding marks out, and left a pretty food finish. I followed up with a 3" LC white pad and BOSS Perfecting Creme. Great results and easy to use.

Re: Griots Garage 3 inch HD Backing Plate
Thank you for this thread. I just ask my wife a Griot's garage 6 DA for Xmas. Also been waiting for the backing plate, guess just have to wait next year. Will I be able to use the new LC hybrid thin pad with this set up? Just wondering because of the power from the machine it might not be a perfect match with some thin pads and with this set up.
Ps. I actually converted my Griot's Garage 3in DA into 1in by using the Flex rotary backing plate and some DA/rotary adaptor. Pretty balance to use but I really don't use it tool long. Just for some thigt spots.
