Backing Plate Question
I've never own a DA polisher, but I have used my friend's many times.
I'm about to pull the trigger on a 3rd gen GG 6" Polisher however I have a question.
I heard many people change out the backing plate for these from the 6" included to a 5" backing plate.
How do I know which backing plates fit this polisher? Also for pads, if I change to a 5" backing plate, can I use 5" pads, or do they have to a be a bit bigger then the plate, so for example 5.5" pads?
Thanks!

Re: Backing Plate Question
The thread is the same on all the traditional DA polishers (PC, GG, Meguiar's, etc.)
Typically a 5" backing plate is slightly under 5" so you can use 5 or 5.5 or 6" pads.
Any of the plates on the following page will have the right thread:
Dual Action Polisher Backing Plates, DA backing plates, Orbital backing plates

Re: Backing Plate Question
I would get the Griots Backing pate with holes in it to help keep your pad cool :-)

Re: Backing Plate Question
Another related question, so I thought I'd pose it here rather than start a new thread.
I recently got a GG6. I've had an old PC 7424 for years. Back then when I first got my 5" backing plate, I had to also swap out the counter weight to a different one. I was intending to re-use my old 5" backing plate on the GG6 (along with all my existing pads). Does the Griot require a change in counter-weight as well?
Thanks!

Would I be right in assuming there is no need to change the counter-weight on the GG6 at all? Just install my 5" lake country backing plate and I'm good to go?

Correct--I use 3.5", 5" and 6" backing plates on my GG6 and all work fine.
