get the flex 3401 and be done with it, it's a tank and being forced rotation it will not stop rotating on curves. if you are looking into a large throw DA, the BOSS G21 is an excellent option as well...

Should I add a Flex 3401 to my arsenal?
I have a 12mm, 21mm and the Flex 3401. I like the 3401 more because of its forced rotation. Yes, it takes more energy, but it's well worth it.

What pads do you like using with the Flex system?

LC Hybrids work great with the Flex. I've also like B&S flat pads.

Also an avid user of the Lake Country Hybrids on the FLEX machines.

Excellent choice! With the 3401, you don't have to sit there and worry about if the backing plate is spinning. This will allow you to get the job done faster and more consistent. It'll take some getting used to, as the 3401 will try to fight you, but you'll be fine in no time. You can polish areas with the 3401 that a 21mm can't come close to. The B&S low pro flat pads are awesome with the 3401.

In a perfect world, you have one Flex 3401 with the factory backing plate to burn and turn 6.5" LC Hybrid Pads and the other set up with the LC Backing Plate Adapter System which is a 4" backing plate and then you can burn and turn 4" LC pads and 5" Hybrid pads.
No more fumbling around trying to switch out backing plates when you want to use a different size pad.
No risk of using the wrong bolt when you attach a backing plate because if you use the Adapter Kit bolt with the factory backing plate you can damage the gears and it will make a lot of noise. If you use the factor bolt with the adapter kit backing plate you'll only have about 1/4" of threads holding the backing plate to the spindle.
PLUS if you ever have a helper or employee you can tag-team the car and knock it out faster.
Anyone detailing cars for money whether they are by themselves or have helpers or employees should have two Flex 3401's.
They won't cost you money they will make you money.

If you're detailing cars for money, especially if you're doing production detailing, then "yes" you should have a FLEX 3401 and learn to be great with it.
"With a Flex 3401 you can power through a detail job faster without risk than any other tool on the market"
You can quote me on that...
