Advice on how to use Flex-3401 with Megs DA system?

I've been reading a lot of threads on whether the Meguiars DA system can be used successfully with the Flex-3401, and there seems to be a lot of controversy.

Some describe many cons such as it being grabby with the Flex, hazing, etc. while others state they use it with great results.

So for those of you who have been using it and are pleased with the outcome - Any important tips that you could share such as the technique, perhaps if this combo is more suitable for specific paints...?

    Thanks

I'm one of the guys that use the term,

    grabby

When describing how the buffing action feels when buffing with thin microfiber pads on gear-driven oscillating polishers.

But just to be fair and balanced I had two others guys test both thin and thick microfiber pads and they came to the same conclusion as I. The write-up is on this forum somewhere...

I say go for it! Get the Meguiar's system and play around with it and report back what you experience. Besides the pads temperature, humidity, paint type, your technique, etc. all come into play. Might be the best system for you and your style of detailing but you'll never know until you try.

Also, when making your purchase, get a Meguiar's 6" foam interface pad, this will provide more cushion and "mimic" a thicker microfiber pad like the LC thick microfiber pads when used together with the Meguiar's microfiber pads.

    From this article,

Damp-Sanding Tools, Tips and Techniques by Mike Phillips

    Meguiar's Foam Interface Pad #S6FI 6 inch
    Back side

    Working face side

    Approximately 1/2" thick

    Hope that helps...

    Mike,

Thank you so much for the input. I'll definitely try using it with the foam interface pad, although it may take me a while until I'll be able to report back. When that happens, I'll make sure to share my experience

I use Meguiars MF pads on my Flex constantly. Speed is the main issue I feel people have. I normally operate around speed 4. Never needed to go higher. Also, the finishing pads with a compound cut remarkably well on the Flex.

Secondly, keep the machine level and the pad flat. If not, that`s when you`ll get the "walking" effect people refer to.

Lastly, clean the pads themselves often.

Buff & Shine MF pads work pretty well on the Flex 3401. I prefer them to the Megs pads on the Flex, but prefer the Megs discs on a regular DA.

Great question! I just purchased the Megs DA system myself and had some questions but you guys have covered them all.

    Thanks
