    3401 and wool

Hey guys. I was wondering if any of you have experience with wool pads on the 3401. Right now I use microfiber for compounding and foam for finishing. I've used the lake country foamed wool in the past and thought it was ok, wasn't extremely impressed. I do have the lake country lambswool leveling pad and was thinking about giving that a shot for compounding. Any thoughts/experience with this or other wool on the 3401? I mainly use m101/205 but also have been trying out HD products and am very impressed. HD cut and Hd polish. Thanks for any and all feedback!!

I used my 3401 with a couple of LC purple Wool Pads to polish out a trunk that I wetsanded with 1500 grit. The yellow foam pad did not nearly have the cutting ability needed to remove the sand marks. However the wool pad did a fabulous job of removing them with much less effort. I used it no differently than I would use any other pad I have, same technique as MF or regular foam pads. Only thing that I didn't like is the initial wool splatter when you us use a new wool pad the strands of wool go flying everywhere on the first several passes.

Yeah it does shed quite a bit initially. I used it with 205 and it did finish out very nice. I'm interested to try it with a compound and see how it cuts compared to microfiber and then finish out with foam.

No doubt wool pads are messy. However there is nothing that will cut like em. I have tried over the years to use foam just to avoid the mess and no matter what you go back to that nasty wool pad to get the job done. Now before I touch a new pad I will put it on a rotary buffer and spur the hell out of it before I use it. This makes it shed a lot of the loose stuff off.

I prefer these over the purple ones.

Why did you choose such an aggressive pad with a polish like M205?

That's actually the one I have used and not the purple. Have you used it with any good compounds?

I used it with FG400 on my Rupes to remove 1500 grit of a bumper that I had to sand down a few dirts after being repainted. That is where the Blue pad and FG400 really impressed me.

I tried it with a Purple pad and did't do such a great job.

Also I'd like to add that I have not tried the blue pads while polishing OEM paint. I only used them while removing sanding from work. So I cannot say if it'll be to aggressive for just polishing OEM paint

Because I was told it would finish out good and surprisingly it did. Not as good as foam though obviously.

As a follow-up after compounding, most on the Forum would suggest 205 paired with a White Pad.
