Re: Flex 3401
One thing the Flex made me do was go over all my extension cords, found some flaws in all of them except one.
Most of the OLD ones were 16 AWE and they were OLD, like 25 to 30 years old.
I have one newer 100 FT 14 AWE that is still good. That one replaced an old 16 AWE 100 FT years ago that went bad.
SO I had to get a couple on new ones so I got a 25 FT and 50 Ft, both 12 AWE so I am set. (Replaced a 50 Ft and 2x 25 Ft)

I will not use any power tool with less than a 12awg cord.
I actually made my own 10awg cord from a length of (dual) wire that was salvaged from a junk boat. It is only 22' long, but works great for my circular saw/portable table saw.
It is no coincidence that man's best friend cannot talk.

The 100 Ft 14 AWE I use for my leaf blower and hedge trimmer it's fine for that.
But I really needed to upgrade my other ones anyway as they were old as I posted and had flaws in them. I thought they were 14 AWE, but they were 16 AWE so, too thin anyway.
25 to 30 YO cords you know, so yeah it was time.

Try a 12awg with these tools, and let me know if you notice any performance increases............

I might try the 12 AWE 50 FT with them and see how they do.
Don't really want to replace a good newer 100 Ft 14 AWE however.

The blower is only 12A so it's not too bad.

I usually look at the existing cord gauge on the tool and will use the same gauge, or heavier, for shorter extensions up to 25 ft. Anything longer than 25 ft. will be at least one gauge heavier than the tool's cord.

Was doing some checking and I should be using a 12 AWE for the blower since it's a 100 FT cord.
