Re: Backing plate destroyed
How old and used is the backing plate? I recently replaced my original backing plate because the velcro was starting to peel up, but it was old and served it's time.

That backing plate was shot before you even started. Time to get a new backing plate. Flex Power Tools, Flex car polishers and buffers, circular polisher, dual action polisher, buffer, german car buffer, german car polisher, flex buffer
I just replaced my backing plate on the Flex XC3401 VRG Polisher. I had my polisher stored in a Flex Bag for a while and when I pulled it out my backing looked like yours in the first picture.

I had mine for 4 years I think. How long did your polishers last?

backing plates are a wear & tear item and they eventually need to be replaced, looks like now is the time...

I have 4 polishers, none of my backplates have worn out yet. Are there signs before they do? This way I can order replacements before they die on me.

Where the Velcro backing is glued to the foam/urethane plate is where most plates fail.
Ripping the pad off the bp doesn't help with the durability.
When removing your pad, check to see that the Velcro on the plate side is not separating.

Way cool to know about that. I usually stick my fingers in between the BP and velcro and I am careful to removing the Pad. I had some bad quality pads before and learned not to go rough on them when removing. I learned quickly the pad will be removed from the glued side real quick.
