Ok fine, i'll go into my garage right now and band-saw a couple threads off the factoy bolt.... I know for a fact the bolt being to long was never the issue because the first thing i did when i noticed the problem was add an extra washer. I'm a mechanic too, i don't work on engines but I'm definitely a professional mechanic in the plumbing/pipe-fitting trade, and have been for almost 25 years. I know as much as anybody when it comes to dealing with power tools.
In case anyone reading doesn't get that, the extra washer lifts up the bolt effectively making it shorter.
Certainly didn't mean that post as an attack on you, man. I didn't realize your plumbing background, and as my cousin is a master plumber, plumbing/pipe-fitting definitely qualifies you as someone who knows tools/tolerances to the max.
I really was not trying to insult your intelligence or beat a dead horse, but only trying to help as many guys do not use or understand tools or tolerances in the way you do.

It's a metal washer as it should be, the ones they are using now are all plastic. They just don't tighten up as good.
Obviously some people don't believe its a problem but, if you can move your backing plate up and down off the felt gasket even a 16th of an inch its a problem. It should be totally secure on a tool that's working at such high speed. It might not make a noticeable difference to you but it is definitely making a difference.
Alright so I just wanted to point that out, thanks to everyone who tried to help me here. I'll prob post again when i get a chance to fix mine or I might just order a replacement if I can buy one with a metal washer. the 5.5" factory replacement in the picture on this site looks like it has a metal one but obviously they changed it. I'll have to call them to see if I can still get it like that. ill let u guys know what happens
