Re: Ultima Paint Guard on my boat
That looks really nice and a very nice boat too. It seems the oxidation on the gel coat just absorbs anything that you put on it. How often should you need to compound the gel coat to keep ahead of the oxidation?

this gunnel gelcoat is going on 6 years and still looks good - was treated and waxed with various things over the years, collonite, rejex, cleaner wax, etc. As the boat is at my dock, it get meticulous care. Some degradation is expected as gelcoat gets older, it opens up it's pores and loses some gloss. That's why the hullsides are painted....it always glosses..ths is the 1st time I have treated it in 6 years...UPG is so damn easy, I thought I'd try it...

Your staying on top of the maintenance of the boat really shows. I wouldn't have thought that boat was 6 years old. Nice work maintaining such a nice machine. UPGP is definitely easy. That and Opti-Coat are the only LSPs that I use any more.

do you think opti-coat would work on the oxidized gelcoat? Bring
back that new gelcoat gloss? I worry it will absorb at diff rates in diff places...

No, definitely not. It would probably be a good choice however right after a full correction.

Thanks - I'm retired - don't have a "full correction" in me anymore - I don't chase the holy grail of detailing anymore - I'm the only one that thinks it does not gloss enuf now! LOL...

Re: Ultima Paint Guard on my boat
You're welcome Glen. I am not retired and I don't have a full correction left in me.
I will come spring time after a winter of weekend rest.
Happy boating and a Happy and safe Holiday Season to you and yours. TD
