M105 and gel coat

I had some scratches below my bow where the previous owner beached the boat.
I never understand why people do this!

But anyway, wet sanded with 1000 and removed the defects.
My question is, do I need to go 1500, 2000, then 105 or compound.
Or to what extent will something like 105 or marine 31 compound remove?
Will it remove the 1000 grit scratches?

Trying to do this in at least around steps possible lol

It’s not so much the product but the tool you use. I had very little luck with an orbital on a situation like this, but great luck with a rotary and a wool hybrid pad along with a medium compound. Then the orbital works with M105, or similar.

I have a rotary and a flex 3401.
I’m thinking a wool pad on the rotary then a foam pad on my flex.

Can I take the wool and rotary straight to the 1000 scratches? From what I’ve read online I will be every bit of 2000, if not more before I begin compound.

The rotary should clear up the 1000 no problem but the finer the sandpaper you use, the easier time you’ll have with the rotary.

I went ahead and just went all the way to 2000, then finished off with a heavy pad on my flex and m105. Took the 2000 right out.
Boat looks new, or maybe even better than new!

Good to know the above worked as I prepare out Cobalt 242 for a new season on the lake. Did you follow with a Coating of any sort?

I don’t do coatings on my 5th wheel or boat.
I use Collinite fleetwax. Once a year would be an over statement if they are covered like mine. I can probably get away with every 3rd year with it.
After each use the boat is topped with spray wax, and each wash of the 5th wheel I hit it with 303.

That fleetwax is tough as nails. Gel coat coatings are expensive, a lot of work, and I don’t think necessary.
I do have 2 vehicles coated with CQUK.

The boat looks like a mirror. Very pleased. I had some fairly deep scratches from where it was beached by its previous owner. Time consuming but Very well worth it.

Excellent, as have used Fleetwax and other Collinite products on my F150 and they hold up nice. Looks like I will put on the Cobalt this year as ceramic coatings are painfully challenging and expensive to put on a 25 foot boat( unless you have a team assisting you, like in a class). I do have some ceramic coating to put on the deck this year
