Re: Can my boats gel coat be restored
Nice Brendella! Lines of that boat are very reminiscent of the Supras of that era. What year? Specs? Definitely don't see too many of them around, that's for sure!
I appreciate seeing the older slalom tugs still getting some love. I have an 89 MasterCraft Tristar 190 and my father just picked up an 81 19 Skier (Stars and Stripes)
As you can see, gelcoats can be brought back from what you think may be dead! Great job bringing that back. Mine was almost that bad when I first bought it 12 years ago. As long as you keep it up, its much easier to maintain, as far as oxidation is concerned.
Follow up all your work with some Collinite 845 or 925 and put that sucker in the water. Post pics after you get it back in the water and in action!

My boat has been sitting for 5 years in the open weather and has built up the oxidation/faded look as seen in the photo. Tomorrow I'm going to paint correction to the hull.
What grit sand paper for wet sanding should I use I was thinking 1200 grit?
I'm going to use my Mikita rotary with a wool pad and Meg's marine compound to remove the wet sand scratches.
Follow up with polishing with my mt300 6" black thin foam pad
And wax with PC using a black hex waxing pad.
Will this work I haven't choosing my polish or wax to use yet I was thinking HD speed but idk if I should test that on a boat or not.
The above process WILL work and I document how to do this EXACT type of gel-coat restoreation in my how-to book.
So for all the lurkers and forum members that will read this thread into the future if you want a step-by-step outline with specific and detailed instructions, get a copy of my how-to book on this topic. The book shows how to do pretty much every boat detailing procedure using Marine 31 products the the techniques shown will work with any quality brand.
