Klumzy and Reddwarf: Looks like everyone else has answered your questions. I have the single light on a tripod. I hear they should be placed about 6 to 10 feet away from the car, not just because of the heat, but also they show the swirls the best at that distance. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
I haven't used mine yet! LOL It's still in the box. I'll use it when I do my mother-in-law's and brother-in-law's vehicles. I have the Brinkmann too and haven't used it yet! LOL

I got mine from wal-mart I think! Or was it lowes? They are yellow with two 500w lights on a tripod for around 30 or 40 bucks years ago.
They look about like the ones alban posted.

Hmm I have a handheld fluorescent light at home...I'm gonna experiment some day to see if they show swirls well or not.

dogg, by all 3 and 3 other ones and test all of them out hahaha
i think those typical yelow ones will work fine...i used them in the past and they do get a lil warm but thats alrite as long as the job gets done

also if you ever get to put those standard shop lights (48" tubes) check out the DAYLIGHT 40WATT ECOFLUX ones from wal-mart.
there bout 5$ a bulb and give off a xenon type look...it really is an upgrade to those standard 25 watt ones in the normal garage..

ive got 8 of them which is far suffucicent to see swirls and the natural color of the car
those tripod ones are excellent to accept and actually move the light to see certain angles of imperfction!

either way i think ull be happy with any tripod light...esp those small ones where u can actually pick it up and move it around the car!

man I was gonna test out a fluorescent light but the bulb is dead and I don't wanna buy a new one just to test it lol. I'll either get the fluorescent lights that I linked to or the tripods whenever I go to Sear's.
