    Terminology: Orbital throw

I've read that orbital throw is the measurement of the side-to-side movement of the buffing pad. How will this effect your polishing results? For example, the Festool Rotex 125 has a sanding stroke of 3,7mm vs the Rotex 150's stroke 5mm.

The pad throw is the diameter of the orbit circle.

I think that the smaller the orbit the finer the finish, but i am not sure, anyone?

I have always being told that 5mm is the ideal orbit for detailing.

Yep, smaller orbit usually mean higher speeds which are beneficial to polish breakdown, heat generation and overall finishing ability.

davet, yes, 5 mm is a healthy compromise between effectivity vs. finish.
