    Oxi Clean and Microfibers

I am looking for a little more stain cleaning power when I presoak my microfibers. I have currently been presoaking with BF Microfiber Detergent and then putting them though the wash with more BF Microfiber detergent.

I presoak in 3 gallon buckets of hot water for about 30-60 minutes agitating and rubbing the towels together ever few minutes.

I recently went out and bought some Liquid Oxi Clean Stain Fighter Triple Power "Free" version without any perfumes, dyes or chlorine and also got some Oxi Clean maxforce laundry stain remover. I was hopeing to pretreat stains with the maxforce and then add some of the triple power stain fighter into my presoak bucket with the BF microfiber detergent to help with stains.

My only concern is that I know Microfibers should not be treated with fabric softners or bleach. I called about the two Oxi products that I bought and neither contain fabric softeners but they do contain oxygenated bleach (not chlorine bleach). Would this be ok for the microfibers if it its the oxygenated and not chlorinated form of bleach?

    Thanks,
    Drew

    Re: Oxi Clean and Microfibers

    Oxygenated-bleach is:

-Hydrogen peroxide with some sodium and sometimes carbon added to it to form a:
Compound that releases the hydrogen peroxide when added to water.

-Known as "color-safe" or "all fabric" bleach, since it does not degrade most fabric or strip most colors.

-Recommended to be: 'Tested for colorfastness' before using.

Bob, thank you very much for that info. yes those are exactly the two products I bought lol! Still unclear as to whether you think they would be microfiber "safe". I know I need to test dark microfibers for colorfastness and I guess the bleach in these is probably not the bleach they say not to use on microfibers on the "caring for microfibers" on the AG page?

    Hi Drew...

I'll go out on a limb here and say that: Although peroxides, sodium percarbonate/perborate are also:
    Oxidizing/"bleaching-whitening" agents...
I don't recognize any sodium/calcium-hypochlorite bleaches; or, chlorine bleaches, per se...
In the Oxi-Clean products you've purchased.

However...I will state, unequivocally, that a:
"Colorfastness Test-Spot" will prove to be prudent.
Just as the Mike Phillips' "Test-Spot theme" has shown to be true...And of great value!!

Good Luck with your MF towel soaking/cleaning!!

I have used the granular oxi clean before in the wash with my towels and they came out fine.

I pre-soak all my microfiber towels in the granular oxi clean. I use the Gary Dean method for rinseless washing with ONR or Duragloss w/aquawax. When I finish with a panel I toss the towel in a bucket of hot water and the granular oxi clean. I let them sit an hour and agitate by hand once or twice, then in the washer they go with Blackfire Microfiber Cleaner. No problemo ever and they always come out soft and virtually stain free.

I've tried the "Oxy" based cleaners too as a pre-soak. I have found that for the most part, they do not seem to remove most detailing products - waxes, sealants, trim products or greasy stains. I have found that a dedicated microfiber cleaner works the best.

Bob, thanks for the help. I'm going to give it a try. It seems others have had success with Oxi-Clean pre-soaking. I will also test for colorfastness as you had mentioned. I will try the Oxi on cheap microfiber loads first as well.

First off, I really like your avatar!! Also, I am going to add both blackfire microfiber cleaner and Oxi-Clean to the presoak to cover both stain removal and the breakdown of detailing products.
