Yeah, it definitely takes a little time getting used to a new machine. I had the rotary pad hop blues when first learning the rotary but with some practice and the right grip and position, it too is as smooth as butter.

Both polishers have their following like most things in life.

The Flex 3401 is powerful, very well balanced, and incorporates forced or geared rotation so the user is not always playing with downward pressure to ensure pad rotation.

The Flex 3401 is a bit pricy but the design, engineering, and build quality is superb and I have no regrets buying mine...

I have the Griots and the Flex. To me the Flex is much better. Comfortable and lightweight. Yeah a little more money but well worth it.

Significantliy lighter? no. I put them both on a scale and the Flex was just under a pound lighter. That doesn't seem like much but since the Flex is more balanced from end to end, it feels lighter than it is. For me, I could care less about the weight. I have the Griots, the Porter Cable XP24 and the Flex 3401. The Flex DA is top of the food chain.

The GG6 is $129 on most sites. For that price you could buy both. Nothing wrong with having both. I have multiple da's and keep different sized backing plates on them. makes things easier.

I talk to a lot of detailers and the key feature they appreciate in the Flex 3401 is the ability to do the job faster because the pad won't stop spinning since it's a direct drive tool.

Time is money and when you're detailing cars for money the faster you can remove the swirls the faster you can get the job done.

Plus the build quality is incredibly high, after touring the Flex plant in Germany last summer I have a much higher opinion and respect for all Flex tool.
