Detailing Clay
I am trying to decide on which type of detailing clay I should purchase for the first time. Does it really matter which kind or are they all the same? Any one have any suggestions on a good product to purchase that is not to expensive?

I just used Mothers for the 1st time, went very well, and was pretty easy to use.

Re: Detailing Clay
Automotive clay is a pliable, petroleum resin product (polybutene), containing mild abrasives. These abrasives are extremely small and mixed in with a powdered synthetic detergent.

Re: Detailing Clay
I have used the mothers clay, DP clay, and clay magic. They all seemed to be about the same. I think that unless its labeled as a more agressive clay they are all pretty much the same.
Edit: Guess I should have checked the date of the OP.

I like the Meguiar's Quik clay.
Pinnacle Poly Clay is nice too but less aggressive so takes a longer time to clay compared to the Meguiar's.

Re: Detailing Clay
I've always used Meguiars with good results. But last week I had to take some overspray off 3 cars that were near a new industrial building when it was getting painted. Needless to say they got covered in overspray paint. One not so bad, the other really bad, and the last (a BMW) felt like 1000 grit sandpaper! The Meguiars clay just disintegrated when trying to get the overspray off. So we tried out our new Griots Garage Clay. It was very sticky so not as nice to work with as Meguiars, but man did it do an AMAZING job at getting that overspray off when nothing else was even coming close to having an impact on it. We even tried M105 and it wasn't working. The only thing I can think is since this paint was going on the inside of that a 150+ft. tall industrial building it was a much more resilient paint. I know this is an extreme case. Most situations you should be fine with most normal clays.
