This is not a fool proof way, but it does give you a base to work with. Measure the mics from your door jam. The clear would be thin in this area, as it is not exposed to the elements. Let's say that it measures 90 mics. and your hood measures on the average of 120 mics. Subtract the 90 mics from the 120 mics and you would have 30 mics of clear.

Ok nevermind, i re-read what you guys talked about and finally got it to calibrate correctly on both metals.
Now my next questions (if this thread isn't too old)...how do you actually use this on PAINT. I mean i know how to get the readings but, how do i know how much of the reading is actually clear coat..and how much is base/primer?
