Yeah I was able to get the backing plate off the duetto. Used a ratchet with a socket that has the right size hex key size.

If I'm washerless then it's speeds 4/5 mostly. I love the polisher both ways. Another benefit of the washer is not worrying about lubricating the housing which really isn't a big deal either .
Try it without the washer first. All you need is speed 4. I've yet to go higher than that with or without the washer.
I just got the mark 2 a month ago, ran it without washer mod, a little too sensitive on edges, I removed backing plate and put my washer mod in place, in my opinion it's 1000 times smoother and really shows the power. Also can hit my edges without the plate stopping completely. The backing plate is very tight, no loctite tho. Make sure u are turning the right direction. Good luck!
I held the machine between my legs sitting down with the backing plate facing out. Then I turned the wrench towards me as hard as I could, came right off.
