Am I washing my microfiber towels wrong way?
Guess I need a new washer/dryer. Or just buy new towels because who doesn't love new towels.

I wonder also if it being winter is affecting how fast they dry and thus is leaving them a bit stiff. When I air dry laundry near a radiator or in the summer it is much fluffier and dries faster. In the winter if it dries slower it is a bit hard and "crusty". You might want look into getting a heated drying rack cheaper online or at IKEA. Just a thought. In Europe I couldn't get a dryer because it was too expensive to use and the heated drying rack worked wonders.

Just an idea, if it is because of the hard water, try adding an ounce of ONR or Uber Rinseless. I know it's been mentioned that they act as water softeners.
I recently switched to Poorboys Typhoon microfiber detergent and like the results over the Blackfire detergent I was using previously. They come out softer.

I have always used All Free and Clear. As Boudin mentioned I also recently switched to Poorboys Typhoon MF detergent, in my humble opinion there is a difference, and will continue to use the PB product. And as far as lint in the trap, I have never seen much, mostly nothing at all.

I have always used Wolfgang microfiber cleaner and rejuvenator and they have always come out great. I also dry mine in the dryer and have a water softener which could contribute to issue, however you would probably see it with other wash items and shower residue from the hardness of the water.

Actually, that's not THAT bad. Mine is in the 400's.

I use Tide and vinegar. Use the "delicate" setting with extra rinse cycle and then dry on low heat. My towels always come out fluffy and clean.

Me too. My dryer has an Ultra-Low setting and I use that for 20 minutes and then hang to air dry overnight.
