    To carefully remove iron particles. Clay does not necessarily remove all iron particles.

    My plan was to clay prior to Iron-X. Just wondering why it's better to use Iron-X first.

    You would try to clean the paint as best as you can prior to using clay. Like I said, clay doesn't clean all the iron particles and you don't want to risk dragging anything unecessary across the paint, causing marring or damage, needing to polish even further.
