3M emblem and trim adhesive question.

Sorry if this is in the wrong sub forum. The trim on my passenger front door started peeling due to the summer heat. I picked up 3M adhesive to reattach the trim. I was reading the directions and it said to clean all surfaces so I went ahead and peeled all the trim off of the door.

My question is should I leave the rubber adhesive strip on the door or should I go ahead and remove it.

I am not sure if the adhesive itself is going to be enough to create the same gap at the rubber strip has. I'm also wondering if I should just keep the adhesive for emblems and go ahead and see if I can buy the actual rubber strip adhesive to put the trim back on the door. Anyone who had experience with this product I would appreciate the help. thank you

Why not forego the madness of trying to put it all back to OEM appearance and just go trim less? Does the trim sit on the panel or is there a recess present where it resides?

Besides, it will be a whole lot easier to maintain the panels when it comes to machine polishing.

Normally one would completely remove all of 'everything' and start with a fresh surface.

How thick is the 3M tape as compared with the original? If it's same or close, should be no problem.

Gonna have to get adhesive tape for it. There's a recess where where the trim fits on the door and there's holes where small dowels to align it properly got a storm on the way. Gotta find something to stuff in those holes so I don't end up with water in the door.

Just checked a ruler, it's 1/16 of an inch thick.

Any household products that will remove this adhesive from the car or do I need to stop by an autobody supply warehouse?

Sorry for the horrible grammar lol, I'm half asleep, worked from 8pm-6am.

There is a recess in the door where the trim sits in, and there are holes in the door where plastic dowels on the trim sit in the door. I just took the trim and slapped it back in place for the oncoming storm.

The tape appears to be 1/16 of an inch thick, dunno if I should risk purchasing the 3M tape which comes at it's thinnest of 1/2 inch or try pressure sensitive tape.

3m Super Strength Molding Tape #3609

Just measured it (like you not totally awake) just shy of 1/16" thick. 1/2 inch wide.

I also just looked at their (3M) site, the specs they show are confusing for sure.

One thing about the 3609 tape, it is TENATIOUS!

The 3M trim tape must be applied to bare paint and bare plastic on the trim piece.

It will not adhere to the original adhesive that came from the factory.
