Wash bucket 3 or 5 gallon

Which one is your favorite? I am planning to get them (1 or 2 buckets) locally(homedepo or lowes) and grit guards online but confused abt bucket size. I feel 5 gal one is too big. 3 gal would be portal and easy to move around the car. If i buy grit guards online will they fit homedepot or lowes buckets. Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance

The Home Depot bucket is perfect since a grit guard fits it in perfectly. It is 5 gallon but does not weigh any more than 3 gallon bucket with same amount of water in it. Since I like to measure everything, I put marks on it to indicate 1,2,3 gallon levels.

I like my 3.5 gallon buckets. They are much easier to move around and they fit nicely on my shelves when I am not using them. I never filled a 5 gallon bucket all the way up anyways.

I bought the Grit Guards first; and then took
them with me to the store where I was going
to be buying the buckets for detailing-purposes.

That way I knew, right away, that the buckets
had a proper fit with not only the Grit Guards...
but also with me, and my detailing-style, as well.

Grit guards do NOT fit in the Lowes blue 5 gallon buckets--they only go about half way down which makes it a perfect fit for using it to make swanicyouth's design for a pad washer.

    Did you get them locally?

I have the Lowes blue and gray buckets. My grit guards fit perfectly in them.

The free bucket from Pep Boys however is too narrow for them and is my wheel/tire bucket.

3 gal. buckets also make excellent buckets for wheel/tire cleaning.

I have the Lowe's 5 gallon buckets and mine go all the way in, but they don't fit snugly at all.
