I don't know the answer but after searching for better filters myself I've decided that for how often i change them, using one of lower quality shouldn't matter that much. I change my cabin filter every few months. My air and oil filters get changed more often than recommended too
Save your money. Invest in the Fram Fresh Breeze cabin air filters. That's all I use. You can pick them up cheap. Fram is actually having a rebate offer on them now.
Just another way for the stealerships to make money. I don't think they matter much. I pullem out and don't replace them in all my vehicles and notice no difference.

Not all cars do. Up until the last 10 years or so, you almost never find them in vehicles made by the big three. I actually retrofitted one into my challenger. It never had one from the factory, but many chargers and 300's did. With very minor modifications, the air cabin filter enclosure from a dodge charger fit right in my challenger.
The really odd thing about it all, was the front windshield cowl had the flap to remove to change out an air filter, but the inner receptacle for it didn't exist. Weird. I wonder if the engineer that set up the assembly line for them omitted that step and piece, or if they couldn't source enough of them and had to go to production without it.
I think it cuts down on the dust and dirt in the cabin quite a bit.
Sometimes they are a huge PITA to get to. My wife's infiniti had to have trim and the glove box removed just to get to the thing.
