My procedure for cleaning glass:
1. Spray cleaner directly onto surface.
2. Wipe with a microfiber glass towel.
3. Spray cleaner directly onto surface AGAIN.
4. Wipe with a (new side) of the microfiber glass towel.
5. Grab a NEW, DRY glass towel and remove any streaks.
To clean my windshield alone (both sides) I use on average 4-6 towels.
excellent advice!!
It's more about having clean towels than anything else. I hate windows, but the more clean towels you use, the better your results will be, IMO.

Re: Going Crazy, What's the Right Way to Clean Glass???
I think the real secrets are:
Clean twice
Wipe down with dry clean towel
Everything in this thread is good, but I believe no matter what product you use if you do the clean twice and wipe down with dry towel you will get good results.

You have answered your own question - everyone uses the same method as you do, but people on this forum use something way better.
I was hanging on AG for many years I have yet stumble on a good advice cleaning glass besides Invisible Glass and DP etc glass cleaner. I don't use microfiber much because it doesn't clean windows to the extend to make it crystal clear and on a top chemicals of react with sun heat and road grime creating film. So I was not satisfied.
Here is my solution, if car sits more than 5 days outside exterior needs to get cleaned with I.G. (very cost effective) and soft microfiber clothes because dust/bird droppings/sand can be abrasive so you have to lubricate particles.
If it is garaged or fairly clean daily continue to next step.
Get yourself Stainless Steel Cleaning Microfiber Towel on ebay or Kitchen Tools Stainless Steel Cleaner cloth Amazon.
Put distilled water in sprayer, spray water and wipe it off, or damp a cloth. Use separately one cloth for exterior another for interior. The same applies to side mirrors. This cloth is washable much easier than microfiber cloth. Your car glass (even most things in the house) will be clear that you will have to double check if you even have a glass. I didn't use this particular cloth on tinted windows since it is bit rough, but I used something else with water as well.
I bought I.G. in March 2014 still have half a bottle left, and I clean windows everyday. I use it rarely only on tough stuff.
And please, since you registered on this forum STOP using Rain-X and Armorall especially on a dash and tires.

Your glass microfiber towels needs to be kept separate from all other microfiber to prevent contamination. I like to use a low nap towel for the initial clean and then a waffle weave (but a second low nap towel) for the drying pass.

Like Nick, and others have said, you need to use a lot of towels to get good results. Like others have said, regular microfiber can leave strands (you'll see little 1-2 mm "hairs" all over glass after having been cleaned. They like to stubbornly cling to the glass and don't like to be removed).
My solution? Use several cotton rags. I keep terry cloth/cotton rags around for doing door jambs, plastics, blotting interiors etc. There has been a microfiber craze as of late, for automotive, and even household use. Although I use microfibers for dash cleaning (dust), there is a time and a place for cotton as well.

This is the only thing you will ever need:
KD Cloth: Glass cleaning mf
No chemicals, no headaches, always perfect glass.

Re: Going Crazy, What's the Right Way to Clean Glass???
I have been in the detail business for 25 years. Our window cleaning system is as follows. Blue surgical towels cleaned with white vinegar, hot water and separate from any other towels. And those towels are never used for anything else to avoid cross contamination. We use a reach tool to do windscreen and rear. The cleaner is secondary to us. Those towels are years old. Older the better until we get holes.

I had the same problem until I got waffle weave towels.
