APC's vs tire cleaners

Dedicated tire cleaners contain a component that is not found in all purpose cleaners, which is what makes them so effective at deep cleaning tires.

This same component is harmful for surfaces intended to be cleaned with an APC (ie: leather, vinyl, etc), which is why an APC does NOT contain this key ingredient.

If you don't plan on coating your tires, then you can get away with using an APC for routine cleaning, however choose your cleaner wisely as some APCs are caustic and what you think is dirt that's being removed from the tire is actually vital antiozonants and rubber conditioners leaching out from the surface due to the aggressiveness of the cleaner being used.

Keep in mind if you clean your vehicle every weekend, it's not necessary to clean the tires every single time you wash the car, especially if you apply a tire gel/spray on a regular basis. If and when you do use an APC to clean your tires as part of routine maintenance, dilute it 1:10 (or whatever the recommended dilution ratio is for "mild" strength). There's no need to use it full strength.

Of all the experience I have in detailing, I still lack the tire cleaning. NOT the RIMS the tires. I do use APC, however, there is residue still left.

If there is a dedicated tire cleaner that AGO carries let me know. I will look into Tuff Shine but if Pinnacle or PBMG carries a specific tire cleaner would be greatly appreciated if you could let me know.

Has to be the DP Tire Clean. I nabbed a sample of it. You could just see all the crud coming off and out of the rubber.

I guess I have been doing this all wrong, but in have used Meg's D108 Super Degreaser 4:1 to clean all my tires. It appears to be working great, but not sure any issues that may arise using it over time.

I have been using Megs D101 diluted at 4:1 for my tires. Is that strong enough,or too much? That is the same ratio I used for D103.

I like 101,but the 103 seemed to do a better job IMO.

I used to used EO A2Z,or whatever they call it now. It worked really well,but it's way cheaper to use an APC.

There are far better tire cleaners out there than D101 or D103 APC. A dedicated degreaser will usually have completely different chemical formulations with stronger solvents, caustic detergents, and offer more cleaning ability than an APC (at similar dilution ratios). For example Meguiar's D101 APC & D108 Super Degreaser have ZERO chemicals in common (other than water).

Degreasers will also serve to balance the pH level of the wheel surface if an acid based wheel cleaner is used. APC's will typically have wetting agents, lower concentrations of caustic detergents, maybe some surfactants, and perhaps other chemicals depending on what the all-purpose cleaner is being marketed to accomplish.

But what about D143 is it good on tires? Thinking about buying some.

Nick, what do you think of using Amazing Roll off to clean tires before applying tuf-shine tire cc? Purchased the cc without realizing there was an accompanying cleaner. Ideally, I would like to use Amazing roll off since that is my go-to for tires. Have you or anyone else had experience with the aforesaid combination?

if I were to use a tire coating I would want the tire as surgically clean as possible so I would probably use a dedicated tire cleaner before applying. i'm currently not (using PERL at the moment) so I just use several different APC's which all do the job well along with a good tire brush...
