    Beginner

Hello all. I have a 2008 Nissan Titan that I would like to make shine like new. The paint is clean and in great condition, minus some blemishes and swirls. I want to detail it but do not know what is good to use, hints, etc. I have never used and buffers, just waxed by hand. If anyone can offer some hints, advice, or product recommendations it would be greatly appreciated. I am hesitant to buff since I have never done it and do not want to mess up the paint.

First, is this a good tool to use, user friendly, etc?

    Thank you in advance

Welcome to Autogeek. Here are some articles that will get you started.

Read as much as you can and watch videos. Take it slow and you will be fine. A Dual Action machine like the Porter Cable is a good machine to start.

You have nothing to worry about with a machine. The products available today and a machine like you mention (PC 7424XP), you can't really damage anything unless you do something silly like get a rock stuck in the pad.

Hang around here a little and read up and soon you'll have the shiniest truck in the neighborhood.

    Hey greenboy222,
I am still fairly new as well. I have been cleaning cars by hand since the '80's and hated the work but loved the results even though they weren't like the guys here get. About 4 months ago I decided to step it up a notch or three. I purchased a Porter Cable 7424XP and couldn't be happier. I do suggest you read through some of the links as posted earlier in this thread. Regrettably, I went through them after my unfortunate pad incident that was purely my fault. I learned a lot and Mike's teaching ability is excellent for beginners. With the DA polisher and fairly mild, easy to work with compounds, I am gaining more confidence and the results are better than I thought I would achieve.
This is the hood of my work Tahoe with 50k abused miles that was heavily scratched and swirled when I got it. The marring was so bad it looked almost like it was washed with sand paper.

+2 on the Mike Phillips' videos and posts, also on getting a PC. It's the most idiot-proof machine out there, practically, the only way you can only hurt the paint is by turning the machine over and beating the car with it.

+3 on doing as much reading and video watching as you can before you embark on this never ending journey. If you decide to jump up to machine polishing consider the Griots Garage DA--just as safe as the PC, but more powerful and it has a lifetime warranty.

Thank you all. I have been watching his videos and find them very helpful. I think I may go with the Wolfgang swirl remover 3.0 and the glaze 3.0.
