I'm currently doing a 2 step paint correction on this beat up 370z nismo. My question is, the rockers and parts of the bumpers are darker grey and have some type of film on them. It looks to me that it might be vinyl, I can don't definitely feel that it's raised. Has anybody done this car or know what it is and if it can be corrected? It's a shame if it can't, it's going to looks amazing.
It's there to protect them from road debris. I've never worked on that car specifically, but many manufactures do that. Some are stickers/vinyls others are painted with a more stout material.
It's all along the front sides and rear of the car, all the darker grey areas. It sucks because when the car is done that's all going to stand out like a sore thumb.
I have a 350Z and my car does have some sort of plastic or vinyl right in front of the rear tire on the rocker. My guess is its a protective vinyl sheeting of some sort. My guess is to try a light polish. Ive never tried to polish mine since it didnt have any defects in it, just waxed it. Looks fine and is hardly noticable.
You might check on the ZForum. There are Detailers that hang out there. I have had 3 370zs but no Nismos. I have looked carefully at the 2015 Nismo and did not see a factory coating different than my Z's.
