Looking for some product suggestions.
Hey all,
Noob here. Both to this forum and detailing. 2nd post, 1st is in the intro section. Recently purchased a new vehicle, Kia Soul + in Inferno red. I love it. Plan on keeping her in impeccable condition as well as my wife's Honda Civic (black). I have been doing some extensive research on both products and techniques. Watched a lot of Mike's videos as well as others. I haven't put the machine to metal as of yet, but the day is quickly approaching. I was hoping all you good people would assist me in filling in the holes in my detail arsenal. I believe I have a pretty good start. Here's the list. GG 6" RO 3rd gen., 3 1/2 CG backing plate, LC 6 1/2" pads (orange, white, blue, black), LC 4" pad (Orange, white) asstd. 3&4" foam hand applicators, CG chenille mf wash mitt, CG citrus wash and gloss, jet seal 109 & butter wet wax, Mothers protectant (vinyl, rubber etc...) Interior cleaner, showtime ID, Menzerna SF 4000, Sonax fallout cleaner, prem. class paint cleaner. Polymer net shield, Dodo juice born slippery, Clay magic clay bars, 6 Griot's 16x16 mf towels, tire brush. Whew! I think that's it. I know I'll need more pads and mf towels. Probably a wheel cleaner & a polish with more cut, maybe Meg's 105. Any glaring holes you may see. Thanks in advance for reading this long-ass post, I really do appreciate it. Take care.
Oops, don't know how I ended up in this section. Can somebody move me to Detailing 101 or the appropriate place. Sorry, thanks.
Peace,
Darrin

Wow looks great!! The only thing I do not see is Menzerna FG400. That is an excellent compound product and works well with SF4000 Polish.
I believe you covered most, however, I am not too familiar with a couple of products...I am assuming they are a type of sealant or coating. If they are then ROCK ON!!

Re: Looking for some product suggestions.
Hey everybody,
Just had my thread moved here from a wrongly placed section.
My bad. Was hoping a bump in this section might garner some more responses. Thanks in advance.

Looks good! I love using FG400. I would consider getting a larger backing plate for your bigger pads though. Also with the Griot's, I would try to stay with 5-5.5" pads. 6.5" pads are harder to keep spinning because of the extra resistance and friction from the larger pad surface.

hi Darrin
I think the lack of responses was just because it was hard to view your list in paragraph form.. here's what you listed...
GG 6" RO 3rd gen.
3 1/2 CG backing plate
LC 6 1/2" pads (orange, white, blue, black)
LC 4" pad (Orange, white)
asstd. 3&4" foam hand applicators
CG chenille mf wash mitt
CG citrus wash and gloss
jet seal 109 & butter wet wax
Mothers protectant (vinyl, rubber etc...)
Interior cleaner
showtime ID
Menzerna SF 4000
Sonax fallout cleaner
prem. class paint cleaner
Polymer net shield
Dodo juice born slippery
Clay magic clay bars
6 Griot's 16x16 mf towels
tire brush
but are these things you've already bought or are planning to order?

Hey Brett,
Thanks for putting the product in list order, you're right, I should have done this originally. These are products that I do own, though have not used yet. I did quite a bit of research and these stood out, as I'm not looking to spend a great deal of money, but wanted products that have received favorable reviews. Just need to fill in some holes now. Thanks for your response. Take care.
Peace,
Darrin

The Sonax fallout is pretty good but does have a smell. just used some last Saturday. From your list it appears your ready to party.

Re: Looking for some product suggestions.
Looks like you've got most things covered. More pads and mf towels are always a good thing. Make sure you have a two-bucket wash setup with grit guards.
Hopefully you won't need a heavier compound, at least for a while, since it's a new car. But SF4000 probably won't do a whole lot beyond minor swirls. As others have said, FG400 is a great complement to SF4000. I'd recommend that over M105, which I hear has a big learning curve. Menzerna is much more user friendly.
Beyond that, I'm not noticing any glaring omissions.

Re: Looking for some product suggestions.
Yeah, it seems that the FG400 is the way to go, had that on my short list along with the M105. Don't think I could go wrong either way, but the majority of reviews I've come across favor the FG due to ease of use, results & clean-up. Thinking that with the FG and perhaps a bottle of Sonax wheel cleaner plus, and maybe some P21s Total auto wash I should be set. Thanks everybody. Take care.
Peace,
Darrin
